The proposed research is about network performance modeling and evaluation of UAE University computer network. Two approaches would be used for the system modeling; simulation using state-of-the-art simulation packages, and network emulation by creating experimental testbeds. As network equipment is expensive, it is most helpful to study the implementations before deployment. Often costly implementations may be simplified or eliminated due to a simulation/emulation study. Our research will also address the cost versus the benefits issue for various options of network deployment. It is our understanding that no such effort currently exists in the UAE. We will apply our study to UAEU campus network and obtain performance metrics of interest. We will use ITC resources at UAE University to create the experimental testbeds and model the existing as well as planned network expansions.
