The
Computer Software Technology Program will enable a
student to gain the analytical skills and attitudes
necessary to enter the Computer Programming field as an
entry level Software Applications Computer Programmer or
other related position. It provides the student with a
program of related instruction, which will help to
develop communication, analytical and problem solving
skills supportive to computer related technical skill
development.
The
student will study programming concepts, such as Windows
Programming using Visual BASIC, the C and C++ programming
languages (or other object-oriented programming
languages), Internet software development with JAVA, and
various Microcomputer software applications. These
concepts will be enforced by Internet investigation,
interactive courseware, and hands-on computer related
assignments on the notebook computer. The student will
also have opportunities to study and practice operating
system concepts, such as LINUX, Windows, and OS/400,
Computer Networking skills, Accounting and other career
related topics.
Most
course work and assignments will be completed on the
student's notebook
computer using the appropriate software development
environment, but the student will also have exposure to
the AS/400 computing environment. Additionally, some
students will be able to enhance their learning process
by working in a Computer Software Technology related
position as a student Intern, for which the student will
receive course credit.
