Instructions
for converting a word document to a web page:
- To construct a web page that matches the example, open
a blank word document in word.
- Then fill in the headings as shown on the example with
your individual information.
- Next insert a table with 1 row and 2 columns. This is
done by clicking on “Table” on the tool bar, and then click on “Insert”
and “Table”. When the dialog box opens set the appropriate number of
rows and columns. Then click “ok”.
- Next fill in the table with the word links and other
information as noted in the example. The dates should be typed with a week
ending date that corresponds to each Sunday of the weeks that you will be
working. Also, insert bullets as noted on the example Internship web page
provided.
- After you have filled in all the information in the
word document and the table, save the document by going to “File” on
the menu bar and select “Save As Web Page.” Name your page
“internship2012.html” OR internship4014.html (NO SPACES IN THE NAME) (Note:
you may need to manually type the .html if your computer defaults to .htm)
- Next you will need to insert the hyperlinks. The
documents that you wish to link to must be ready so that you can perform
this step. To insert a hyperlink in your word generated web page just
highlight the word as you would in a word document and then click on “Insert”
on the tool bar and then click on “Hyperlink”.
- When the dialog box appears, you can type in the path
name to the file you are connecting or click the “browse” button to
locate the file. If you use “browse” then once the file is located,
you just double click on the file name and the computer will automatically
insert the path name into the dialog box.
- After all your links are complete. You are ready to
FTP your web pages to your web site that was provided to you at the time you
set up your email account. The URL for your Clayton web space is
http://student.claytonstate.net/~csu#####/ the # signs are equal to your
email number.
- Note, if you have never used your web space, you must
create an “index.html” page in your remote directory.
- Remember when you FTP your files, your directory
structure on your local site and remote site of FTP must match. Which means
your folder names and file names must be the same.
- Also remember do not leave spaces in file names when
you create web site files.
- After you have FTP’d your files, open your website by
typing in
http://student.claytonstate.net/~csu - ####/internship2012.htmor
foldername/internship4014.html and check to see if your page is working.
Click on all the links and make sure they all work.
