Special Topics in Software Development (Computer Graphics Concepts)

This course addresses many of the concepts in computer graphics.

Prerequisites

ITFN3134, MATH3902, ENGL3901, ITFN3314, ITFN2012

Outcomes

Students will obtain a proficient level of master in the understanding of computer graphics algorithms, including rendering techniques (1, 6), 3D environment concepts (2), lighting and materials (3, 4), basic 3D math concepts (3, 4, 5) and how these topics relate to the current field.  To demonstrate a superior level of knowledge and understanding, students will design and implement their own 3D environments (2, 3, 4, 5).  Students will also present their work in class demonstrations (2-7).

Objectives

Students coming out of this class will have understanding of:

  1. 3D Graphics Pipeline
  2. 3D Modeling
  3. Lighting models
  4. Materials (Procedural and Image-based textures)
  5. Matrix operations (translation, rotation, shearing), matrix stack operations, basic 3D math
  6. Conceptual understanding of raytracing, radiosity, bump mapping, particle systems and Cg shaders
  7. Animation (IKAs, bones and keyframes)

Meeting Times

Lecture             Monday - Thursday, 1:30 - 3:50PM

Lab                   On your own time

Final exam: while there is no final exam for this course, we will meet to debrief the semester during the scheduled final exam time, which is the last day of class.

Projects and Presentations (3)                             66.6%

Midterm                                                             33.3%

Your grade in this course is determined completely on performance, not on effort.

Midterm Grade - given the schedule, the midterm grade will not necessarily reflect 1/2 of your grade.

Academic Misconduct

If a student is found obtaining or granting inappropriate help in this course on any assignment (test, quiz, exam, homework, etc.) he will receive an F in the course.  The offense will go on permanent record with the university.  If this is not the student’s first academic misconduct offense at CCSU, she will be recommended for expulsion from the university.  This is in full accord with CCSU’s policy, and we encourage you to read and review the university’s policy in your student handbook.

ITP Choice Information

Beginning Fall Semester 2001, all students at CCSU are required to state that they have on-demand access to a notebook computer that meets the recommended hardware/software specifications that have been established by Clayton State faculty. Academic penalties may be incurred for not meeting this requirement.  See http://itpchoice.clayton.edu/ for more information.
