SERVICE ACTIVITIES

Directed Student Learning

Directed Individual/Independent Study

May 2009 - July 2009: I agreed to supervise independent study in MATH 2140 (Linear Algebra) for these four students this summer. Each of them was unable to take the course during its regularly offered time in the Fall, and would otherwise have been bottlenecked in their progress toward their respective degrees.

June 2008 - December 2008: Student needed to take MATH 3303 in the summer in order to be able to graduate in Spring 2009, and also not overload herself during Fall 2008. I volunteered to teach the course to her as an independent study.

Supervised Research

January 2009 - Present: (Heather Geary) Research director for a student's Senior Project. This project is a requirement for completion of the B.S. degree in Mathematics. Student has made good progress so far, but she still has some work to do. I estimate completion at the end of Fall 2009.

January 2008 - July 2008: (James Sumners) Research director for a student's Senior Project. This project is a requirement for completion of the B.S. degree in Mathematics. This student's project was a survey of a particular area of mathematics that is new to him and is also aligned with his strong interest in computer programming. His project yielded a written paper of significant length (23 pages) and a 30 minute public presentation of his findings.
