AP Statistics Course Description (aka The Acorn Book) and the Teacher's Guide

DISCLAIMER:  THE AUTHORS OF THIS FAQ HAVE NO RECOMMENDATIONS ABOUT THE BOOKS OR SUPPLIES LISTED BELOW.   INSTEAD, IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU SEARCH THE ARCHIVES FOR PREVIOUS DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THESE PRODUCTS.

OTHER BOOKS:  Some of these books are review books, while others are written as textbooks.  Those written as texts tend to be more appropriate in college introductory statistics courses (because they do not follow the AP Statistics curriculum exactly).  However,  these books are excellent supplementary materials.  Some AP Statistics teachers do use these as primary texts (follow asterisks for information provided by the publisher) and supplement where the AP Stat curriculum is missing/not covered thoroughly enough (please refer to the Archives for more information).

The Workshop Statistics Series is now available. Teachers have a choice of the Workshop Statistics: Discovering with Data, Workshop Statistics: Discovery with Data and the Graphing Calculator, or Workshop Statistics: Discovery with Data and Fathom.  The Minitab edition and the Bayesian Approach are also available.  These texts support an active participation statistics course.  The new editions continue the focus on genuine data, dozens of new data sets have been added and previous collections made current.  New material has also been added on probability, The Central Limit Theorem, experimental design, inference for regression, and chi-square tests, making the text more suitable for the AP Statistics course.

*Activity-Based Statistics is a rich collection of statistical activities and investigations that you can use in a wide variety of situations, from algebra through AP Statistics. Its explorations help students -- and teachers -- develop their intuition about randomness and variation. In addition, the book allows you to explore unusual topics such as bootstrapping, resampling, capture-and-recapture, ranking, bias, sensitive questions, and quality control -- topics that include modern computer-intensive methods and rich connection to everyday life.

**Workshop Statistics: This book is not an exposition on statistics, but rather a series of hands-on activities in which your students discover statistical concepts, explore statistical principles, and apply statistical techniques by digging into rich data sets. Use Workshop Statistics as a supplemental text, or design your statistics curriculum around it. Either way, you and your students will enjoy this collaborative learning experience.
